Mizoram election machinery geared up for assembly polls

Aizawl, May 12 (PTI) The Mizoram election department is gearing up for the 40-member state assembly polls likely to be held later this year, state’s Chief Electoral Officer Lalmalsawma said here today.

He said the preparations were going on in full earnest on line with the delimitation of the assembly constituencies done by the Delimitation Commission and the final voters list was expected to be notified by June 30 and photo electoral rolls by August 31.

Lalmalsawma said the existing 883 polling stations in the state would be increased to 1,024 polling stations following the guidelines of the Election Commission.

He said 90 per cent of electoral photo identity cards have been issued to the voters and efforts were being made to ensure that hundred per cent of the voters were issued the cards.

The term of the current state assembly expires by early December and elections are likely to be held during November, which is the ideal climatic condition in this tropical area.
