Aizawl, June 23: A delegation of Nagaland government will visit Mizoram next month to deliver relief material, including Rs 20 lakh, to the victims of the Mautam famine.

The 22-member Naga delegation would include Nagaland Chief secretary and additional chief secretary. Some music groups would accompany the team to perform musical concerts in Aizawl.

The delegation is scheduled to visit on first week of July, an official press release said in Aizwal today.

Meanwhile, as decided by the state cabinet, free ration of rice would be distributed to selected families from July 1, to tide over the famine in the villages.

Mizoram is currently under the grip of famine due to ‘Mautam’ or gregarious bamboo flowering that triggered rodent population explosion.

Armies of rodents ravaged and devastated cultivation areas, especially paddy fields rendering the farmer with almost nothing to harvest during last year.
