Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal to fight in support of ILP

Kohima, July 19: In a show of solidarity on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have resolved to seek its continuation, after the Gauhati High Court in a ruling nullified the arrest of some non-Mizos for violating ILP.

A 15-member Mizoram delegation headed by Law minister H Rammawi yesterday met Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio, Home minister Imkong Imchen, senior government officials, representatives of NGOs and students body following the June 12 interim order of the Gauhati High Court.

Seeking support from other North Eastern states for continuation of the ILP system, the Mizoram delegation, also met their counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh and All Assam Student Union (AASU) in Guwahati, H Rammawi told newsmen here.

During the discussions here, the Naga Students Federation took serious note on the PIL seeking scrapping of the regulation and expressed solidarity with the Mizo Zirlai Pawl.

The Mizo delegation members claimed that tourists are not affected by the existing ILP system, but the states must have some regulations for outsiders, particularly for suspected Bangladeshi migrants, to protect the ethnic and indigenous tribes of the North-east.

The ILP system is applicable for Indian citizens in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
