Yang Peiyi sings without face in Beijing Olympics

A cute pretty, charming little girl Lin Miaoke sings in front of 91,000 spectators and a billion TV viewers around the world melting their hearts. However, it was not her voice, it was the voice of another 7-years old girl Yang Peiyi, who was banned from performing live as she was not presentable enough. He chubby face and crooked teeth was not an image China wants to present to the world, media has learned.

The extraordinary last-minute decision to splice pictures and sound was taken by a top member of the Chinese Communist Party politburo.

A lot of people have criticized the move but the organizers have justified

Chief music director Chen Qigang explained that during a live rehearsal shortly before Friday’s ceremony, the Politburo member said Miaoke’s voice ‘must change’.

So Peiyi’s voice was matched with Miaoke’s face.

‘We had to make that choice - it was fair both for Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi,’ Mr Chen told Beijing Radio.

‘We combined the perfect voice and the perfect performance.

We’ve also learned that Yang Peiyi insisted she was not upset at the switch and was honoured to have her voice used. Miaoke was a minor celebrity even before the opening ceremony, having appeared in a number of Olympics-related TV advertisements.
