Three Mizo legislators to join Congress

By admin • Aug 27th, 2008 • Category: Mizoram News

Aizawl, Aug 26 : Two independent legislators belonging to the Mizoram Congress Party (MCP) and one legislator of Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) are likely to join the opposition Congress party soon, State PCC sources said here today.

The MCP MLAs – Saikapthianga and Liansuama have asked Lalchamliana, Speaker of Mizoram Assembly, to provide them a separate seat as they have withdrawn support to the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) legislature party.

Lalchamliana told PTI that he had sent a letter to the MNF legislature party chief and State Chief Minister Zoramthanga on the matter as the rules desired consultation of the legislature party which the two legislators earlier supported.

“I will make my decisions after receiving the replies from the MNF legislature party,” he said.

The duo, who resigned as Congress MLAs after the split in the State PCC, were re-elected in by-polls in 2005 with the support of the MNF.

Andrew Lalherliana, one of the two MLAs of the ZNP, said that he would resign on September 1 and join the Congress the next day.

Lalherliana was earlier axed as a treasurer of the ZNP after he availed free travel allowance for the State legislators after the party issued directives not to avail the facility.

Congress sources said that the three legislators would be welcomed at a function on September 2
