Top officials of the ministry for forest and environment and principal chief conservator of forests (PCCFS) of the northeastern states would attend the meeting to be chaired by director general of forest and environment A K Johari, the sources said.
The meeting would discuss about how to tackle the situation arising out of the massive bamboo flowering in the northeastern states in the past three years, Forest Minister Jiten Chowdhury told reporters.
He said the impact of flowering was maximum in three north eastern states — Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
In Tripura, almost all the subdivisions experienced the bamboo flowering during the last four years, he said, adding that the state has received Rs 21.20 crore so far to check bamboo flowering as well as for re-plantation of bamboo.
The state government has already undertaken massive bamboo plantation drive to ensure supply of the yellow gold.
Besides, plan for value addition to raw bamboo was also initiated to ensure its optimum utilisation.
