Swine Flu H1N1 case found in Northeast India


Chief Secretary of North Indian state of Mizoram – Mr. Vanhela Pachuau disclosed Saturday that two persons in Mizoram have tested positive of the Swine Flu H1N1.

In a press conference held this afternoon in his official residence, the Chief Secretary said, of the 4 blood samples sent to National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Disease, Kolkata, two of them have been found positive and these patients are CRPF constable deployed in Lengpui Airport for security duty, Surender Singh and another CRPF, Luiralmawia who came back from Delhi on leave recently.

The Chief Secretary also said that these patients are being treated in Isolation Ward created in Falkawn Referral Hospital. The Director of Health Services, Dr. N. Palai who assisted the Chief Secretary in the press conference asked the people not to be panic.

Comforting the people that the virus is not fatal if proper treatment is given, the Health Director said, the Department has medicine for treatment of the patient and competent doctors as well.

He however cautioned the people that infection to others is easier from the first day to the 7 day. Children suffering from the disease should be observed for 15 days after recovery while adults required observation for 7 days after recovery.
