AIZAWL(IANS): About 200 Indians are set to emigrate to Israel in January after they were officially recognised as Jews, community leaders here said Monday. Rabbinical leaders in Jerusalem said the Israeli government approved the request for emigration by 200 people from the states of Mizoram and Manipur in northeastern India.

Famous singer Lou Majaw’s band Great Society, 4th Element, Felix Ranee and the students of Mizo Modern Higher Secondary School, Shillong, sang for the Mizos affected by mautam (famine) caused by bamboo flowering, at a concert here last evening.

At least 39 children have died in the last month of malaria and diarrhoea in a refugee camp in Tripura.
The camp, where Reang tribals took shelter after being driven out from Mizoram has been around since 1997. Neither Mizoram nor Tripura wanted them. Since then they've been living in camps, which are meant to be temporary shelters.
